These photographs are a glimpse of my time spent in Peru. They trace from the oceans of Lima to the high Andes of the Sacred Valley to the pulsing Madre De Dios River in the Amazon Jungle. Peru harbors an incredible spirit, one that intricately weaves customs, traditions, and practices with Catholic influence, one that welcomes and opens the heart upon arrival. To think of Peru separate from our mother earth, Pachamama, would be to disregard her, as well as her strength and ability to persevere despite years of many hardships. We cannot romanticize her, as many are tempted to do, but we cannot deny her poetry.
El Corazón es un Ojo, I hope, can express to you a breath in the beauty of Peru, the warmness of those who inhabit its lands, and its ever thriving spirit.
The name of this series, El Corazon es un Ojo, which translates to, The Heart is an Eye, was borrowed from the Octavio Paz poem, ‘La Casa de La Mirada,’ or, ‘The House of Glances.’

Behind The Scenes
The Iron Triangle
The Iron Triangle, also referred to as Willetts Point, is an area of abandoned and functioning, independently own and run auto shops. In the upcoming years, The Iron Triangle is scheduled to be paved over and transformed into a parking lot, which will, in turn, push independent businesses and their owners out. This is an ongoing project that documents the personal histories, experiences, and perspectives of those who work in the Iron Triangle.
